The Day Of Zooey

Today is dedicated to the one and only Zooey Deschanel. She's pretty much perfect. I first found her in 2003's 'Elf', singing 'Baby It's Cold Outside'. I was fixated on her voice. She is drop dead gorgeous, with stunning blue eyes and just wreaks of 1964 coolness. She also has a supporting role in one of my all time favorite movies, 'Almost Famous'. If you haven't seen her latest release '500 Days of Summer' what the fuck is wrong with you?? The movie is great, and the soundtrack is even better. Music plays a key role in the movie. Regina Spector, The Smiths, Wolfmother, and Meaghan Smith are just a few artists that support this Sundance gem. Tom, the main character, is a big Smiths fan. Summer and Tom bond on this in the movie. They also show a young Tom sporting a Joy Division shirt in the opening scene (props!) Now on to the music!

US - Regina Spektor
Please Please Let Me Get What I Want - The Smiths
Please Please Let Me Get What I Want - She & Him
Sweet Disposition - The Temper Trap
Hero - Regina Spektor
Quelqu’un M’a Dit – Carla Bruni
Vegabond - Wolfmother

Zooey is also known for performing in a duo with M. Ward called 'She & Him'. They have released one album entitled 'Volume One'. It's filled with originals that were all written by Zooey, as well as a few covers including Smokey Robinson, and Lennon/McCartney tunes. It's the perfect mix of indie-folk music and Zooey's voice shines. They also appear on the 500 days soundtrack, covering The Smiths 'Please Please Let Me Get What I Want'. They are planning on releasing a second album titled 'Volume Two' due out March 23, 2010.
