Best Coast Visits Daytrotter

YAY! The day has finally come for Best Coast to stop by the Daytrotter studios to give us a long session! You can hear the reverb has been dropped in half when Beth sings live, it's still there...but you can really hear her quite good singing voice shine through. This is a fun little session to listen to. They will be playing at BOMB Fest this year, so be sure to grab a ticket and get to that festival, its gonna be a lot of fun! Shell Games

Bright Eyes is getting back together and there is a lot of hype surrounding their return. Their new album 'The People's Key' is said to leave the folk behind and be much more of a rock album. I'm looking forward to what Conor has in store for us,  I hope it's a dark album. There is a lot more electric which you hear on our first look at the new album. 'Shell Games' is heavy with electric guitar riffs, not the fluffy acoustic we are used to hearing. There is a touch of synth in there too, just the right amount. I really like the sound of this track even though it is very different then anything from Conor. I am looking forward to this album coming out. Girls - Heatbreaker

Girls have a new EP coming out in November called 'Broken Dreams Club'. The song 'Heartbreaker' is a live staple for Girls shows. The song is a sad sad number, like most of Girls music...but I love it so much. I guess I can just really relate with Chris. Grab the track for free below.

Daytrotter is killin it of late. Just recently they had Toro Y Moi and Tennis in studio to give the Daytrotter spin to their tunes. Both of these artists make enjoyable, relaxing summer music. Must Have Daytrotter Sessions

The last few days of August were ended on a good note thanks to http://www.daytrotter.com/. They put up sessions with Surfer Blood and The Beets. I was lucky enough to see both of them in concert this year, and both are really strong live. Colleen Green, takes a page right out of the book of The Dum Dum Girls and a little Best Coast. Drenched in reverb, this is as fuzzy as you can get. With a catchy, Bethany like chorus and bad ass DD guitar riffs...it's another perfect lofi girl rock song. Wild Nothing - Your Rabbit Feet

Wild Nothing's album 'Gemini' has been on constant rotation since I got it. It's a top five album for this year, there's no doubt about it. Jack churns out perfect 80s British dream pop songs and “Your Rabbit Feet” is no different. Seeing them live at Daniel St. in Milford was a real treat. One of my favorites bands this year, and with only about 20 people in the audience, very intimate. 'You Rabbit Feet' comes from a new label called Warmest Chord, which was apparently started by some guys in London. Best Coast - Boyfriend

“Boyfriend” is the first song on Best Coast’s debut album, 'Crazy For You'. They gave it away as a free download earlier today, and you can grab it at the bottom of this post. “Boyfriend” has the same lo-fi feel that we saw on her early 7″ singles...just not as much reverb on the vocals, much like she actually sounds live. Beth played it on her stop in CT back in April. Can't wait for the album!!

Cloud Nothings - Didn't You 7''

Garage rock wonders Cloud Nothings blew me away with their Record Store Day Performance. They are true rock n rollers. Their album 'Turning On' has been in OA's Albums Always Spinning column almost since this blog came out. It's irresistibly catchy and innocent. They are putting out a new 7'' on Old Flame Records. 'Didn't You' and 'Even If It Worked Out' is the groups best work to date (except for Cant Stay Awake). They use the same successful formula of hooking you in with catchy as fuck riffs and lyrics, jangly guitars, reverb soaked vocals, and killer drums. Their drummer is a bad ass mother who don't give an F about nothin. And wouldn't you know it, you can download the entire thing once your done reading this sentence....butttttt you should own the vinyl.

Washed Out- You and I

Here is a new track from Washed Out. It's very lay by the pool on a sunny afternoon. Much like the rest of his music, it soothing and literally chills you out. There are some really nice guest vocals from Caroline Polachek. The song is for Adult Swims 8 singles in 8 weeks program. They listen to some quality music over there. New Toro Y Moi Single - Leave Everywhere

Toro Y Moi has a 7'' single coming out July 20th via Carpark Records. It is now available for pre order. The song is very different then what we are used to hearing from Chaz. Instead of the electronic Macbook side, we get traditional instruments. Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure Chaz recorded every instrument himself. The song, 'Leave Everywhere' has the perfect amount of lo-finess to it, just a little bit of re-verb on the vocals and guitars. You can still hear his great singing voice shine through, the song is super catchy. This really showcases what Chaz can do as an artist...he really is an all around musician. Childish Gambino

Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino is most known for his star role on NBC's Community. He is also a rapper, we wrote about him in Feb. Teen Daze - 'Four More Years'

So I am just going to keep reposting this article with updates because more and more information has oozed out from Teen Daze. They are now featured on Pitchfork's Forkcast and have just announced they will be releasing their EP 'Four More Years' off one of our favorite record lables Arcade Sound. They feature bands like Magic Man, Memory House, MillionYoung, and the just added Cool Runnings. Congrats to Teen Daze, and if you don't have the music...what the fuck are you waiting for, don't you want to say 'I knew these guys when....'

(The following was written on 4/27) Summer is just around the corner, and we have the new jam to help melt you into the summer sun. Teen Daze, from Vancouver has a total of 315 views on their myspace account (well a few more now) and is set to play their first show ever on May 8th. The song is 'Shine On You Crazy White Cap', the first single off their EP 'Four More Years'. It's a jaunty tune...reminds me a lot of Toro y Moi's song 'Freak Love'. The groups name describes the track best. It certainly is dazy...it's drenched in synth bliss and it flows just like The Farmington. 'Let's drive to the coastline, tonight' - that line pretty much sums up how I feel about my life right now. I just want to get in a car, drive to Cali, and never come back. Freelance Whales - Daytrotter

I was going to write a little review for the Freelance Whales Daytrotter session and give you a little info on how it all went down but, the story is just too good to be retold. Read it here Daytrotter's home base is located in Rock Island, Illinois. They were on the road for SXSW, they wanted to record some of the artists playing the festival down in Austin. This would be the first time that a Daytrotter session would be recorded infront of a live audience. But it would not go down without some hicups.
