Colleen Green, takes a page right out of the book of The Dum Dum Girls and a little Best Coast. Drenched in reverb, this is as fuzzy as you can get. With a catchy, Bethany like chorus and bad ass DD guitar riffs...it's another perfect lofi girl rock song. Wild Nothing - Your Rabbit Feet

Wild Nothing's album 'Gemini' has been on constant rotation since I got it. It's a top five album for this year, there's no doubt about it. Jack churns out perfect 80s British dream pop songs and “Your Rabbit Feet” is no different. Seeing them live at Daniel St. in Milford was a real treat. One of my favorites bands this year, and with only about 20 people in the audience, very intimate. 'You Rabbit Feet' comes from a new label called Warmest Chord, which was apparently started by some guys in London. New Toro Y Moi Single - Leave Everywhere

Toro Y Moi has a 7'' single coming out July 20th via Carpark Records. It is now available for pre order. The song is very different then what we are used to hearing from Chaz. Instead of the electronic Macbook side, we get traditional instruments. Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure Chaz recorded every instrument himself. The song, 'Leave Everywhere' has the perfect amount of lo-finess to it, just a little bit of re-verb on the vocals and guitars. You can still hear his great singing voice shine through, the song is super catchy. This really showcases what Chaz can do as an artist...he really is an all around musician. New Best Coast Vid - 'When I'm With You'

Here it is folks, the premier of the new Best Coast music video directed by Pete Ohs. The song, 'When I'm With You' is my current favorite. I wake up the morning singing it, and go to bed thinking about it...and yes i posted this at 5:55 am, fml.

Cloud Nothings & Speaker Tree Records

Speakertree Records is an independent record store in downtown Lynchburg, VA selling new and used CDs, vinyl LPs and 7”s. They specialize in smaller label releases, vinyl LPs, handmade goods, and magazines. They can special order almost any CD or in print LP that you are looking for and get it in quickly...I got my order of vinyl in four days. I would not call Speakertree a label, but they have released one album, Cloud Nothings 'Turning On' on January 19th.

These boys know how to jam. Messy lofi fuzz, catchy hooks and riffs followed by exploding guitar jams..total head boppin music. I feel like Cloud Nothings did exactly what they needed to with this album. A new band making a short record filled with fun fuzzy pop songs that you can listen to on a car ride with your friends. I only wish it was longer. Clocking in at < 30 min, it left me wanting more. I flipped it back over and started again.

Freelance Whales

'Freelance Whales found one another in late 2008, in Queens, amidst a strange amalgam of unfamiliar instruments, and precariously arranged pop songs. Using whatever musical gadgets they happened upon (mostly harmonium, banjo, glockenspiel, synthesizers, guitars, bass, drums, waterphone), the five members worked at crafting songs with interlocking rhythmic patterns, lush textural layering, and an engaged group-vocal energy. The result is their debut LP, weathervanes, whose songs work at evoking a sense of dislocation, or sensory disorientation. They invite the human spirit to exit the body, if only for brief moments. Very busy, lots of music to be played...just picked up a record player so I have been listening to a lot of old vinyl the past few days, but Freelance Whales is what has been running my ipod today. Their debut album really is amazing, and I'm just too lazy to write up what was summed up perfectly over at Last.fm. These guys are noisepop and it's awesome. Just ordered their debut record on vinyl along with a slew of other new music on vinyl. But that is another post for another day...Check out Freelance Whales @ their Myspace, or buy the album Here. Small Black/Washed Out - The Warehouse 3/6

This Saturday The Hartford Party Starters Union is hosting yet another banger at The Warehouse in the Hartbeat. Tanlines, Washed Out, and Small Black will perform. To say that I am excited doesn't even begin to explain how much fun this show is going to be, not to mention the company in which I will be enjoying it with. It's going to be soooo chill. Doors open up at 9 and it costs 5 bucks. Tickets can only be bought at the door, it's 18+ so get down there!

Washed Out and Small Black have an EP out together in which they remix each others songs. Check it out before the show.

Magic Man - Real Life Color

I think I just found my new favorite album of '10. Okay, maybe that was a quick draw...I'm still on my first spin, but this is fantastic music. The Boston based duo, Magic Man, started making their music together during a summer spent in France. They took what they had and brought it back to the states, where they tweaked and edited it. It's definitely got that lofi indie feel, but its very electronica too. This music reminds me of Freelance Whales, with a little Modest Mouse feel.

Album Review: Toro Y Moi – Causers Of This

You know that feeling? After listening to the opening track of an album, you just get know that it's going to be a fantastic listening experience from start to finish. Well that's how I felt after listening to the opening track 'Blessa' off of Toro Y Moi's debut album 'Causers of This'. It has warped beats, dreamy vocals, and eventually moves into an electronic jam sphere. The entire album is drenched in exotic synths and heavy dance beats.

If you are trying to place Toro Y Moi aka Chaz Bundick into a musical category, he can be compared to the likes of other DIY lo-fi pop projects like Neon Indian, Washed Up, Emil and Friends. 'Lissoms' has that straight up Animal Collective/Daft Punk dance floor vibe to it. It really gets your toes tapping and is currently my favorite track. 'Freak Love' is a musical whirl. Repeating vocals and crackling white noise, it sounds like a record being spun at a very weird and fast pace. The song goes round and round in non stop rotation. I also really love 'Low Shoulders'. It has a real good summer feel to it with very catchy synth hooks. This album is a full-blast indie dance anthem if you will, a perfect way to welcome the new decade.
